Vintage Shopping in Paris : My top picks

As a self-confessed vintage vixen I was naturally very eager to find the best fashion hubs for vintage clothing Paris. After a lot of rifling through bargain bins, excessive amounts of walking on Paris’ cobbled streets (in heels) and a couple of brawls with fellow lovers of retro glam here are my top picks for when you’re feeling a little nostalgic. It just makes me so happy.

1.Kilo Shop

If you’re a budget conscous fashionista who likes to make an event of vintage shopping, then this is the place for you. An enormous thrift haven rich in colourful, bold garments spanning all of the eras, The Kilo Shop is a must-see. As you can probably guess from the name, the garmets are priced by weight, meaning that you could get a mean deal on what you snap up. The last time I went, I bought a floral blazer, a Levi’s oversized jean jacket, a paisley pleated midi skirt AND a cream knit all for 20 euros!

2.Hippy Market

They weren’t joking when they chose the name for this store! Hippy market stocks all types of vintage gother goodies, but there is a clear 70s vibe permeating all of the garments. Whether you’re in search of oversized sunnies, a fur jacket or a bright leather skirt, all of HM’s clothes make a bold statement. What’s more, there is a FroYo joint just down the street so that you can reward yourself after all of your hard work.

3.Free’p’Star

If you’re looking for rare vintage gems at rock-bottom prices then Free’p’Star is a good place to start. Having said that, with its popularity, endless racks of clothing, cramped aisles and death defying staircase, I would say that it is only for the most experienced thrifter who is willing to roll up their hipster sleeves and DIG.

4.Tilt Vintage

With 2 locations in Paris, and 4 in France, Tilt Vintage shouldn’t be hard to find, and lucky for you! A straight to the point, well-organised vintage store with anything you could ever need when you’re craving retro glamour, you have to visit Tilt! Unlike in a lot of vintage  stores where garments are chosen and thrown together in a careless frenzy, these pieces, all extremely quirky and offbeat have clearly been chosen with care and expertise. I even managed to find a black leather skirt which fits me like a glove for 30 euros! (Whilst simultaneously drooling over a violet snake-print leather mini for 50 euros.) I have issues…

5.Didier Lutot

The only vintage store to be listed in a Frommer’s guide, the incredibly stylish Dider Lutot is a haven of exquisite albeit incredibly dear designer vintage pieces. In 3 locations around Paris, yeat all near to the Louvre, visiting Didier Lutot is an elegant and breathtaking experience. They naturally stocks pieces by Chanel, Balenciaga, Givenchy, YSL and Hermes. One store is even dedicated solely to the classic LBD! Even if you can’t afford the pieces stocked here, I highly recommend a visit just to see the high calibre of gorgeous vintage garments stocked and even try them on and feel like a 20s siren just for 5 minutes, yeah, I did that…
